By the way, you should note that we are using a low-cut stump as a chopping block. This is pretty sweet. We took down a big Apple tree there and I haven't removed the stump yet. I cut it low to the ground so that we could use it for splitting. This is like splitting your logs on cement. By the way, don't split your logs on cement or asphalt. You will ruin your maul, chip your cement to shreds, and cut yourself to shreds with flying cement shards.
I finally split some wood yesterday. It is finally just dry enough I guess. That would explain my previous difficulty.
